What is an AddInq?
A) an ancient Aztec ceremonial trowel
B) a component of a revolutionary 18th century printing press
C) a long-nosed Malaysian marsupial that lives on termites
D) a start point for exploring your organisation, its effectiveness and
readiness for change.
The answer, of course, is D. Think of it as a way that you, jointly with us, gather insight about your organisation in such a way that you and your staff own the output and work starts immediately. AddInq provides a foundation for you to plan your change, increase the odds of realising your business’ true potential, in a way that engages your people from the outset. It is the start point for an approach to change based on a sounder understanding of your organisation and its capabilities.
So why the strange name?
The AddInq takes its cue from a key concept in Organisation Development:
the balancing of advocacy and inquiry*. In Western management structures we are encouraged to be strong
‘advocates’ and problem solvers; to understand the situation, know what we think about it
and argue our case confidently. But as the situation becomes more complex, it’s often the case
that no one person has all the answers – and advocacy alone is not enough. To function well, there
must be a level of inquiry – an effective communication of ideas and a receptiveness to other views.
But with advocacy so ingrained in our way of thinking, it can be hard to make that change.
How does an AddInq work?
Wingivers work with you from the start, working with your ideas and beliefs
about effectiveness in your organisation. We use them as a platform for exploring further. We work with
your people to run the AddInq which combines discussion with data gathering.
We will:
- identify the areas to be explored
- engage you and your people in the task
- identify and build the ambition and appetite for change or development
- determine and recommend where to intervene next and with what
In short, an AddInq brings advocacy and inquiry together to establish a framework for more creative, effective thinking and action – and the fostering of better relationships, deeper understanding and greater trust.
What happens when you get AddInqed?
Here’s how it goes:
- Purpose: We talk about what you are trying to achieve and why
- Scope: We agree the scope of the AddInq and the date plan
- Plan: We agree who will be involved and how it will be managed and communicated
- Set up: Two Wingivers consultants set up the work with some of your people (the work group) and agree what will happen to the output of the inquiry and discussion
- Work: We run the inquiry over a five week window with regular discussion within the work group and report back
- Next steps: Together we work out what needs to happen next – including communicating the output of the inquiry
