My background includes…

…a first-class honours degree in mechanical engineering from Loughborough and a diploma in management studies.  I’m also an NLP business practitioner and an accredited user of various personality and behavioural assessment tools such as MBTI and FIRO-B, and I’m currently engaged on another diploma, this time in executive coaching.  Starting my career as a project engineering manager with a division of BP Chemicals, I subsequently spent over 20 years at Mars in technical and commercial management roles – much of these involving the leadership of pan-European project teams – before deciding to concentrate on coaching and facilitation work.

What I’m particularly interested in is…

… bringing a pragmatic approach to the improvement of organisational performance, no matter what sector the client happens to be involved in.  Whatever kind of intervention is made, it has to have a proper, measurable result.  It was largely my years of management experience that helped to stimulate my interest in people, and fortunately the last few months of my time at Mars enabled me to concentrate exclusively on team development, facilitation and similar people-focused issues – providing the ideal transition for the move into my chosen area of consultancy.  And I’m thoroughly enjoying every minute of it!

When I’m not working I like to…

…walk my dogs through the Leicestershire countryside (I live in the middle of nowhere!).  I also like gardening, play a bit of golf and act as unofficial ‘logistics manager’ for my wife’s music shop – which in practice means delivering repaired instruments, doing the post run and so on.

Something you’d never guess about me is…

… one drunken Christmas several years ago, I somehow committed myself to enter for a triathlon.  After seven months’ intensive training, I duly competed in the event, and came in some 30 seconds under the overall time I’d set myself. But although I still enjoy swimming and cycling, I’ve never put my running shoes on since!
